HISTORY
The Senior section of the Club was formed in 1974 by the late Elwyn Owen of Queensferry Sports and the Junior section of the Club formed in 1984. The Junior section of the Club evolved from the two Club Scout Packs the Wayfarers and the Pathfinders, with the aim to give local children aged 6 to 16, the opportunity to play competitive and non-competitive football on a weekend. In the season 2021/22 that we have just finished 320 children had the opportunity to represent the Club. The gates of Hawarden Castle are shown on the Club crest because the Club’s Patron is the Grandson of the Victorian Prime Minister, Sir William Gladstone. Many of the youngsters who play for the Junior section then progress to play for the Senior, Reserve or Colts Team. As a committee we feel it is important that local footballers should play football in their local area. In the late 1970s the Club had two famous Welsh International players at the club Ian Rush, former Liverpool player and Barry Horne, former Everton player. Other famous players that started at Hawarden Rangers were the late Gary Speed, Michael Owen who incidentally holds the Club record for goals scored in one season at 11 a side. He achieved this record in the Under 12s when he scored 96 goals in 24 games. Most recently Danny Ward made his international debut for Wales against Northern Ireland on 24 March 2016 and now who celebrates his position as goalkeeper for Premier League club Leicester City
